Sustainable Transition – A shift towards Renewable Energy

In response to the heightened geopolitical tensions in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, a global energy company operating there faced unprecedented risks to its critical oil and gas pipelines. With the situation compounded by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company urgently required a comprehensive crisis response plan.

Engaging Apoorva’s strategic framework, an assessment revealed critical indicators highlighting the lack of ground intelligence, inaction from the Minsk group, and heightened security risks, including disproportionate weapon use. Additionally, insights unveiled Azerbaijan’s significant potential for solar energy with its 2,400-3,200 annual hours of sunshine, indicating a promising avenue for renewable energy development.

Leveraging this risk assessment and forward-looking insights, our client not only safeguarded its ongoing operations but also navigated risks effectively while capitalizing on opportunities in renewable energy.

Riskey’s strategic solutions facilitated the client’s exploration of renewable energy initiatives, including drafting a meticulous decarbonization plan for operations in Azerbaijan. Furthermore, the company secured an agreement with the Ministry of Energy for the implementation of a substantial 240 MW AC Solar power plant project in the country.

The proposed solar power plant is poised to generate over 500 million kWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power 150,000 households in Azerbaijan. This transformative 240 MW solar project aligns with the energy client’s ambitious goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, marking a significant step towards a sustainable future while positively impacting the local community and Azerbaijan’s energy landscape.

“Boldly embracing risks fosters the groundwork for impactful transformation.”
